Two Songs (2002) was written to explore the vast repertoire of vocal music. Being a vocalist myself, I had this want to create something that was different, that was difficult to sing and yet musical. It was also around this time that I had discovered the music of Anton Webern and Arnold Schoenberg. Their influence can be seen clearly in the first of the two songs, Cantata for Anton Webern (David Ricks).
